This page is devoted to "show and tell". What can you do with a Colour Wheel of 12 fabrics?
The Celtic Tree pattern below incorporates a colour wheel of fall shades. The
warm colours are on the tree leaves as well as alternating blocks with the cool
colours. On the outside row, the cool colours are all in the centre of the small
blocks with the warm colours on the top and bottom. Kathy designed the
pattern and hand appliqued the diamonds. Template instructions are included
in the pattern.
A colorwheel of shades - the warm
yellows, reds, and oranges on the centre
leaves and the cool blues, purples and
greens in the background of the border.
Celtic applique is the basket holding the
leaves. Based on a pattern by Elinor
Burwash of Edmonton. Kathy Tanner did
the dying, hand applique and hand quilting.
Sherill Taylor appliquéd this
table runner using 1 set of
6-1/2" charm squares. The
photo appears a little dark -
the background is actually
navy. Sherill chose the Ives
Tones (The row on the
colour wheel closest to the
black centre).
This Bargello illustrates the
Prang Colour Wheel in the
pure hues.
The Ives Shades
and tones were
used in the
Shaded 4-Patch
to the right.
Using very pale tones
and the shades on the
Ives Colour Wheel - this
block of the month
sampler was created
using split complimentary
combinations for each
block. There were 12
blocks and 12 colours so
each of the background
fabrics in the tones
combined with the two
split-complimentary
colours in the shades.
The rectangle created a
challenge for the setting
but again, I tried to utilize
the idea of the colour
wheel - moving around
the circle (with two
blending blocks in the
centre).
The Prairie Applique made use of the
Cool shades for the block background
and the warm shades in the sashing.
The tones were utilized in the
appliqued flowers, birds and butterflies.
This Dresden Plate
incorporates all Fall
Shades.
Tumbling Blocks utilizes all the
bright Ives hues and matching
pastels. A grey "neutral" was
used in each block. This block
only shows 6 colours but all 12
colours are incorporated into
the quilt by using different
combinations of 6 in each
block.
