Embellishing Fabric
with Tsukineko Ink
Tsukineko inks (when heat set) are a permanent, washable product

You can use the Tsukineko ink straight out of the bottle on fabric.  Use PFD fabric
(prepared for dye) or prewash commercial fabric to remove sizing.

You can create a paint medium by mixing:
2 tablespoons aloe vera gel  (yes.... the kind you use to sooth a sunburn!)
4 drop of Tsukineko ink.
Fabric at right was sponged with the aloe vera gel and ink
mixture using some greens and blues for background.  When
that layer was dry (I cheated and ironed it dry with paper
under and over the fabric) I did the next layer.

The dragon was outlined and painted with the aloe vera/ink.

You can paint, stamp, sponge... whatever you like

When ink IS DRY - HEAT SET with an iron.
Sponge on light colours for background.
Heat set.

“Squeegee”… like an old credit card

On a plastic work surface, you can premix a little ink with shaving cream to create back
ground colour, then spread the shaving cream over the area (maybe start with a 6” square
to get the feel of it)  sprinkle on dots of ink and swirl with toothpick or comb.  Place 6” square
of fabric on top.  Press on the shaving cream.  Turn the fabric over onto the work surface
and “squeegee” off the excess shaving cream.  Heat set your fabric.
