Embellishing Fabric
with Jones Tones Foils
Jones Tones makes a permanent, washable foiling product that can really zing up a
fabric.

You need
a couple of basic products to embellish your fabric.
    Jones Tones Foil
Jones Tones Plexi-glue or fusible web (like Steam a Seam or WonderUnder)
or
Bo-Nash 007 Bonding Agent, Write 'N Rub Pens, or other adhesives specifically
designed to adhere foil.  (not all glue works!)

I have tried a variety of f
abric glues and none work like Plexi-glue.  It is flexible,
permanent and the foil adheres to it simply by rubbing it over the dried glue with your
finger (not the finger nail, just the pad of your finger.)
You can use the Plexi-Glue straight out of the bottle and use it to
outline silhouettes, draw, or write.

You can daub or sponge it on a rubber or wooden stamp and create
a variety of prints.

You can paint the glue on with a brush - fine or thicker

WAIT UNTIL THE GLUE IS DRY - IT WILL BE CLEAR.

Then place the foil (dull side down) on the glued area and rub it
with your finger.

When using the glue to outline, avoid getting too complex or
detailed.  You may find the glue spreads a bit more than you expect
and one line may run into another if you put them too close
together.
You can outline a discharged silhouette or
outline an appliqué.
Last summer I tried stamping with the Plexi-glue then foiling.  I was very pleased with the results.  The
instructions say to “brush” the glue on the stamp using a foam brush… but I couldn’t imagine wasting all
that glue… so I just patted it on my stamp with my finger.  When the glue was dry, I pressed on the foil and
got some beautiful embellishments.
You can also "burnish" the foil to the glue with an iron on low
setting.  Just place the foil on the glue and using the edge of the iron, run it over the foil.  The heat will
help it adhere to the glue even when there is just the thinnest amount of glue.
 Wash the stamp as soon
as you are done.  An old tooth brush gets it out of the crevices.

I also tried using
fusible web (whatever brand you prefer – Steam a Seam, WonderUnder, etc.)  I cut out
various shapes and ironed them on the fabric, then peeled off the paper backing and “burnished” the foil
on (shiny side up) with the edge of my iron.   I let it cool for a few seconds and then peeled off the foil.
The advantage of this method is you don’t have to wait for the glue to dry!  One tip – when I had my iron
on cotton setting, the foil shrunk and distorted a bit.  When I had it on “silk” it worked great.

You can also use Tonertex Write 'N Rub pens to create lines and designs.  Let the glue dry until it is clear
and place the Jones Tones foil - dull side down - on the glue and rub with your finger.  For more
