Pieces of
pellon or
batting
placed
under the
screen
provide a
"resist"
when you
pull the
thickened
dye over
the screen.
Using "contact paper" (adhesive shelf
liner) you can cut out shapes with an
exacto knife then place the contact
paper on the screen and print.
Masking
Tape on
the
screen
Newspaper placed
under the screen.
Pressed leaves placed under the screen.
Shapes cut
out of contact
paper
Mod Podge or wax
resist is painted on
the screen around
leaves then the
leaves are
removed.
When the Mod
Podge is dry the
screen can be
used to print leaves.
Thickened dye is also excellent for
stamping or stencilling.  I like to use a
sponge to place the dye on the stamp,
then place the stamp on the fabric.
A two-step process first screens the
"frame" then when dry to the touch,
the animals are placed in the centre.
Paint background colours on fabric
with a sponge brush then place a
mesh sheet under the screen and print
over the background colour.  I like the
bags onions or oranges come in or the
large mesh used for rug hooking.
The trees were cut out of contact
paper then the contact paper stuck on
the fabric that was already dyed green.
Rectangles and strips were cut out of
contact paper then the shapes were
stuck on the screen in a geometric
design.

When the fabric was dry to the touch,
the white parts hidden under the
geometric shapes were sponged with
the thickened paint.
Thickened MX Procion Dye
used for screen printing as
well as stamping.
